Meet the Team

Our History

Kollaras Trading Company is founded by the late John Kollaras, an immigrant from Greece. At this time the business was a humble fruit shop in Wollongong. Towards the end of the decade the operation began to evolve into the wholesale of various goods to the merchant ships docked at Port Kembla.

1960s

After completing their studies John’s sons, Tass and Michael Kollaras, joined the business. With new eyes came new opportunities and they started to shift their focus to wholesaling, specifically produce and frozen food.

1970s

With John, Tass and Michael Kollaras focused on international expansion, the ‘80s were an exciting time for the business. During this period their main interest became the importation and exportation of produce, frozen food, soft drink and other commodities. With this shift, the international footprint of KTC continued to grow.

1980s

KTC continues its expansion with the purchase of Tosti Cellars liquor stores and a collection of other significant investments including car dealerships and their property portfolio. By the mid-90s reform in importation law created greater opportunity in the retail, export and duty-free arm of the business.

1990s

Building on the current platform of alcohol trading, KTC serves a range of domestic and international businesses and organisations, including key cruise ship operators.

2000s

A globally recognised importer and exporter, KTC further builds on the platform of alcohol trade with a partnership with Australian Liquor Marketers (ALM), and a focus on driving growth in its Export business. The Kollaras Family also invests in governance and leadership, with the establishment of an Advisory Board and focus on talent development for future growth.

2010s

The early 2020s presented another opportunity for consolidation and growth. Some parts of the domestic and duty free businesses were opportunistically exited. The result was a renewed focus on KTCs high growth Export Arm, where strong growth across a diverse range of markets and product verticals was present.
